Questions

What belongs here?

Old photographs of real places: streets, buildings, squares, harbours, shops, gatherings. Anything that shows how somewhere looked in the past and can be pinned to a spot on the map.

How old does a photo have to be?

There is no strict rule, but the archive is about the past. As a guide, aim for photos at least 20–30 years old. A 1995 street scene is welcome; last summer's holiday is not.

I do not know the exact year. What do I enter?

Give your best estimate and set the precision to "around" or "decade". A photo marked "around 1960" is far more useful than one with no date at all.

Who can add photos?

Anyone with a free account. Every photo is checked by a moderator before it appears, to keep the map accurate and respectful.

Can I add family photos?

Yes, as long as you have the right to share them and they show a place that can be located. Please be thoughtful about photos of people who are still living.

Who owns the photos?

You do. By adding a photo you let us display it on the archive with your chosen credit. You can delete your photos at any time.
