Terms of use

Last updated: June 9, 2026. Plain words first, lawyerly precision second.

1. What this is

Looks Back is a community archive: a world map of old photographs. Members add photographs, mark where and when they were taken, and everyone can browse them. This page sets out what you can expect from us and what we expect from you.

2. Who we are

Looks Back is operated by an individual sole trader registered in Croatia. Contact: [email protected].

3. Your account

You may create one account per person. Keep your password to yourself. Tell us right away if you think someone else has used your account. You can delete your account at any time from your settings.

4. What you may upload

Only photographs you have the right to share: your own photos, your family's photos, public-domain images, or images you are otherwise licensed to publish. Pin them to a real place and an honest year. Do not upload copyrighted material you found online, advertising, or images that are not genuinely old. See the guidelines for detail.

5. Your photos stay yours

You keep ownership of every photograph you add. By adding it, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display it on the archive (on the map, in listings, and in search) with the credit you choose. You can delete your photos at any time, which removes them from public view.

6. Moderation

Every contribution is reviewed before it appears. We may reject, hide, edit the location or date of, or remove any photograph that does not fit the guidelines, and we may suspend accounts that repeatedly break them.

7. Takedowns

If you hold the rights to a photograph published here, or if a photo shows you and you want it removed, write to us and we will act promptly.

8. No warranty

The archive is provided as is. Dates and places are contributed by people and may be wrong. We do our best to keep it accurate but cannot guarantee it.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. Significant changes will be announced on the site. Continuing to use Looks Back after a change means you accept it.
