Contribution guidelines

A few simple rules keep the map honest and worth exploring.

1. Real places, old enough to matter

Add photographs of actual places as they used to look: streets, buildings, squares, harbours, shops, public life. Aim for images at least 20 to 30 years old. Recent snapshots do not belong here.

2. Pin it precisely

Drop the pin where the photo was taken, not roughly nearby. If you know which way the camera was pointing, even better. A precise pin is what makes the time travel work.

3. Be honest about the year

If you are not sure, estimate and mark it as "around" or a decade. Never invent a false precision. A good guess beats a wrong certainty.

4. Only share what you may

Add photos you took, your family's photos, public-domain images, or images you otherwise have the right to share. Do not upload copyrighted photographs you found online.

5. Respect the people in the frame

Be thoughtful with photographs of people who are still living, and with sensitive or painful history. If someone asks to have a photo of themselves removed, we will remove it.

6. No spam, no nonsense

No advertising, no watermarked stock, no modern photos dressed up as old ones. Moderators reject anything that does not fit, and repeated abuse loses the account.
